Malawi commemorates international day for disaster reduction

The 2018 International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) is being commemorated today, Friday, 19th October, 2018 at Masintha Ground in Kawale 2, Lilongwe City, under the theme ‘Reducing Economic Losses from Disasters Has the Power to Transform Lives.

The IDDR is commemorated every year on 13th October as one way of raising awareness on efforts being made to build resilience of communities and nations to disasters.

The commemoration, which is being presided over by Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Hon. Cecelia Chazama, MP, is focusing on resilience building, strengthening policy dialogue and emphasising the role of stakeholders at various levels in the process of reducing disaster economic losses through building national resilience

It started with a solidarity walk led by the Malawi defence Force Band, from Chidzanja Bridge along Mchesi River, to the venue.
