Having successfully held a forum on Climate Disaster Risk Financing (CDRFI) and Insurance in Blantyre from 29th to 31st October, delegates drawn from 24 African countries visited Mulanje District where they interacted with communities and appreciated progress on the implementation of climate smart public works programme, construction of an emergency operation centre and the implementation of the 2024 Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Programme (LS-FIRP).
Under this year’s LS-FIRP, Mulanje is one of the districts benefiting from the African Development Bank’s African Risk Capacity Insurance programme following a drought experience which triggered an insurance payment of US$11.2 million.
The forum aimed at exploring ways to strengthen Africa’s resilience to climate-related disasters through innovative risk financing and insurance mechanisms.
