Malawi Vice President and Minister responsible for Disaster Management Affairs, Everton Herbert Chimulirenji on Wednesday, (January 8, 2020) visited T/A Masasa in Ntcheu District, where 252 households were affected by floods that came about as a result of heavy rains that poured on the night of 2nd January.

The floods left 63 families displaced (most of them sought refuge in their relations’ houses) and three people injured. The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) provided relief assistance to the affected people, on Sunday, 5th January. The relief items included cups, plates, buckets, rice, beans, salt and plastic sheets for temporary roofing.

During the visit, the Vice President reiterated calls for people living in flood-prone areas to move uplands; and the Muslim World League, through its humanitarian arm (the International Organisation for Relief, Welfare and Development) donated about 300 bags of maize flour each weighing 25kg to the affected people.

Moosa Mkhize, who represented the Muslim World League, said the donation has been made in the spirit of oneness.
