To become a highly reliable, efficient, effective and proactive disaster risk management coordinating institution that in turn is socially, politically and economically vibrant and sustainable.

MISSION

To effectively coordinate the implementation of disaster risk management programmes through overseeing disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities.

MANDATE

To coordinate and direct the implementation of disaster risk management programmes in Malawi.

Operation Chithandizo on Chisi Island

Soldiers from the Malawi and South African Defence Forces continue to provide medical assistance and airlift relief items to areas that were affected by the March 2019 floods.

The exercise, dubbed ‘Operation Chithandizo,’ is being coordinated by the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) and is aimed at assisting people affected by floods through the provision of medical care and airlifting of relief items, among others.

On Wednesday and Thursday (17th and 18th April) the soldiers, took ‘Operation Chithandizo’ to Chisi Island in Zomba District, as shown in the pictures.
