The Vice President and Minister responsible for Disaster Management Affairs, Everton Herbert Chimulirenji on Sunday (20th October, 2019) presided over the commemoration of the 2019 International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) at Ntangaye Primary School Ground, Senior Chief Liwonde, Machinga District.
The IDDR is commemorated every year in October as one way of raising awareness on efforts being made to build resilience of communities and nations.
The commemoration was held under the theme ‘Build to Last,’ and started with a solidarity walk led by the Malawi Prison Service Brass Band.
Apart from communities and disaster risk management stakeholders, the commemoration was also attended by World Food Programme Country Manager Benoit Thiry and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Bright Msaka.
During the event, the Vice President launched the National Disaster Recovery Framework and the 2019/20 Food Insecurity Response Plan.
