Launch of the Malawi 2019 Floods Post Disaster Needs Assessment report

Vice President and Minister responsible for Disaster Management Affairs Everton Chimulirenji on Wednesday (July 3, 2019) presided over the launch of the Malawi 2019 Floods Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) Report at BICC in Lilongwe with an appeal to development partners and all stakeholders to support reconstruction and recovery efforts following cyclone Idai-induced floods.

As indicated in the report, Chimulirenji said the March 2019 floods caused an estimated K172.6 billion in damage and losses and that the country requires K270 billion for recovery and reconstruction, hence the need for support.

The Vice President called on all stakeholders to have the plight of the less privileged at heart when coming up with recovery interventions.

During the launch, Chimulirenji presented copies of the report to various representatives ranging from development partners to the affected communities.
